The Process

1. Intro + Dot Connecting (0:00)

2. What is one thing you're world class at? (8:14)

3. Understand your motivations (11:21)

"When it comes to networking, you really have to ask yourself, what are your goals? And if it's only to get something, then you should probably stop there."

  • Before you get started, understand your goals for networking that's what will set you up for success—remember networking is a two-way street and should be used for personal gain

  • Be curious and take a genuine interest in other people

  • You need a clear mission, vision, and understanding of your "how" and "why" when networking. Be able to articulate them clearly.

  • Be transparent about your goals when networking even if they seem ambitious. The other people will appreciate the transparency

4. Show up (26:40)

"If you can influence serendipity through the daily actions you take, you'll be amazed that you can have crazy opportunities that pop up."

  • It's important to show up to events and be present in your community—especially if you say you will

  • Be thoughtful with your calendar and don't just give time away. Keep calls to 15 minutes and be intentional with your time

  • Brandon emphasizes the importance of following up and maintaining connections through various channels (e.g., texting, sharing content)

  • He suggests creating a system to keep track of your networking interactions (Brandon uses Google Notes, Dmitry uses HubSpot CRM and Notion)

  • Try Brandon's 'give and ask' at the end of every networking interaction to share what you can offer and be clear about what you want

5. What's next? (36:28)
